Apparently not! They do go for Snow Gums apparently, but maybe it is the distribution of the Moths, not the host trees which determines the distribution of the scribbles. Thanks for the comment.
Cheers
DenisDenis Wilsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10031115992910569116noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19288377.post-55770275566577539192008-12-12T14:52:00.000+11:002008-12-12T14:52:00.000+11:00I've got E. haemastoma in the garden Denis, but na...I've got E. haemastoma in the garden Denis, but nary a scribble, apparently the moth doesn't venture this far south. I've seen plenty of scribbles on E camphora to the north-east, and on snow gums.Duncanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12182951711946882353noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19288377.post-55976236498842214352008-12-12T10:58:00.000+11:002008-12-12T10:58:00.000+11:00Excellent photo essay Denis.Excellent photo essay Denis.Boobookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01395043246338753023noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19288377.post-64736485480322171942008-12-12T09:52:00.000+11:002008-12-12T09:52:00.000+11:00Hi MickYes, you are right about the different spec...Hi Mick
Yes, you are right about the different species. But obviously there is a some common factor - lets call it "taste". I mentioned two species in the NSW southern regions. Cannot advise about yours.
Still, that point is, these Gums are very attractive to insects. Worth spending 15 minutes crawling around the tree, trying to capture images of them all - ants, flies, wasps, moths, Leaf Hoppers, Cicadas, spiders, etc, etc. Its amazing what you can find. The Chew Family site mentioned on my blog has excellent presentation of Brisbane Insects and Spiders, which should be appropriate to your area.
You'll have to leave the Kayak behind, though!
Cheers
DenisDenis Wilsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10031115992910569116noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19288377.post-40728241395302667352008-12-12T05:45:00.000+11:002008-12-12T05:45:00.000+11:00There are so many eucalypts given the common name ...There are so many eucalypts given the common name of 'Scribbly Gum' its rather confusing. Is seems to be a common name across a wide range of areas and different species in each.mickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08230845410313320080noreply@blogger.com
