Dear Blogger readers - there is a lot more than is included in this email from Environment Victoria
- the development of coal seam gas mining in Gippsland, and proposed for the Otways.
- so-called New Generation Methane extraction from Permian Coal seams under the Murray Darling regions of Victoria, and SA.
- logging in East Gippsland (home of the Victorian Faunal Emblem, the Leadbeaters Possum)
- Horses and cattle in the Alpine National Parks
- etc, etc, etc

Dear Denis,
I hoped the worst was over.
But
the attacks just keep on coming. This is an unprecedented onslaught on
Victoria’s environment and clean energy future by the Baillieu
Government. The list of destructive actions is now so long, I can’t fit
them all in this email!
I’ve
been outraged to see decades of environmental protections
systematically dismantled to make way for mining, logging and
irrigation. The gutting of our Climate Change Act. Their decision to
allocate 41 billion tonnes of brown coal for mining from Victoria’s
Latrobe Valley, that will produce five times China’s annual greenhouse
emissions.
Now
my outrage has turned to disgust with this latest development. As part
of the trend toward turning our beautiful green wedges into a suburban
wasteland, the Baillieu Government announced six new suburbs worth of
urban sprawl for Melbourne. With no plans for new public transport, this
means more cars on the road and more pollution. And it’s bad news for
the threatened Southern Brown Bandicoot, which depends on the area for a
vital habitat corridor.
Victorians
love our environment and want clean energy. But they don’t know what’s
going on. Once they find out, it will be the people like you and me who
hold this government to account and stop the destruction.
There’s
no end in sight unless we band together and act now. In these trying
times for Victoria’s environment, we are the ones who are going to make a
difference.
Thank you so much for any support you can offer. Please share this email with your friends.
Yours sincerely,
Kelly O’Shanassy
