Let us hope that tonight's sunset is a prelude to a warm sunny morning.
Sunset from my back deck tonight |
Tomorrow morning we have approval for the annual ANOS visit to Kangaloon, to check out the Orchids growing there, which are protected from view by virtue of living within the Special Area of the Sydney Catchment Authority..
The SCA has granted ANOS Illawarra approval, for tomorrow, to enter the "Special Area" at Kangaloon. Naturally we will be very careful to not harm anything in this precious area.
I wish the same could be said about Apex Energy, at Darkes Forest, near Helensburgh.
Anyway, here are some images of a few of the Sun Orchids which might be visible to us, tomorrow, providing the weather is sunny. Sun Orchids earn their name, of course, by opening up only on sunny mornings.
Pink Sun Orchid, Thelymitra carnea. |
Slender Sun Orchid - Thelymitra pauciflora |
Spotted Sun Orchid - Thelymitra ixioides |
So, let hope tomorrow is kind to us - SUNNY. |

Yes, I'll wish you a lovely bright day - it you'll do the same for me!! It's very frustrating to know the shorebirds are all out there and I've no chance of good photos until the grey skies go away.
The Sun Orchids are beautiful.
Well, I hope your weather is OK, Mick.
Looking OK here this morning.
Hope the birds perform for you.
And th weather.
Denis
Dear Denis, as I type this I think of you looking for orchids in a special place. I hope the weather holds up. It is pouring here but we are a very long away.
Please check out the bowerbird video again, I think it's clearer now.
cheers, catmint
That is an incredible looking sky!
Keith.

Your image called to mind the old English adage"Red sky at night, shepherd's delight, red sky in morning, shepherd's warning." The science underlying this is that the weather in the UK tends to come from the west and in the UK rain rarely lasts for more than 12 hours. At least before climate change.
So if the setting sun hits cloud the rain will be finished by morning but if the rising sun does so it may well rain all day!
In Canberra it was VERY foggy early on but has since cleared to a lovely day.
Martin
hope it went well, looking forward to hearing what orchids you found. Please check out the bower bird vid again, i think it's clearer now.
Thanks Catmint, Martin, Le Loup.
The sunset last night was indeed a good omen. Sunny all day today.
Too many plants to publish here. I will upload an "album" and link back to there, from my Blog.
Thanks everyone (incl the early-rising Mick) for the well-wishes.
Denis
